This camp is not sport specific but is designed to increase both male & female athletes speed and agility which can be applied to their sport of choice. Sessions will include instruction on running mechanics for acceleration and top end speed; proper & appropriate warm up aiding in flexibility; balance & coordination; core stability; plyometrics; and agility drills. The focus of the camp will involve on field training with some in classroom instruction. Athletes should come with running shoes, t-shirts, shorts, warm up pants and top (weather dependent) and water bottle. Campers will be given a program outline at the end of the camp to allow them to continue to use the knowledge gained during the week.
Windsor Lancers Track & Field Assistant Coach - Brett Lumley
Brett Lumley is the Associate Head Coach of the Windsor Lancers Track and Field program.
He joined the Lancer coaching staff in 1998 as a part-time assistant and was hired full-time in 1999 to coach the jumps and multi-events, he also serves as the department's travel coordinator.
In 2009, Brett has won the Petro Canada Coaching Excellence Award for his work with Stefanie Reid. Stefanie competed in the 100m, 200m & Long jump at the Beijing Paralympics, winning a bronze medal in the 200m. Brett was also named the co-winner of the Gino Fracas Award for Lancer Coach of the Year, an honour usually reserved for head coaches. Brett’s international coaching experience also includes Team Canada positions on the 2009 World University Championship in Serbia, the 2007 World University Championships in Thailand, and the 2001 World Youth Championships in Hungary. Brett has also served as a provincial coach at the Ontario Summer Games in 1990, 92, 94, 96 and 98.
Brett's previous coaching experience includes serving as the Head Coach for the St. Thomas Legion Track Club from 1985 to 1998 and also as an assistant coach at Lakehead University from 1995 to 1998. In 1999, Lumley took over as the Head Coach and General Manager of the Windsor Legion Track and Field Club, a position he held until 2007.
Brett's biggest highlight as a coach was coaching the Lancer male long jumpers to a sweep of the Top 5 positions at the 2009 CIS Championships. In his 10 years with the Lancers, Brett has assisted them in capturing 7 national team titles. During his career, his athletes have achieved 32 All Canadian and 4 All American status.
Coach Lumley is nationally certified, as he has his NCCP III coaching certificate in jumps.
Canadian Track & Field National team member - Jamie Adjetey-Nelson
A member of Team Canada, Jamie is currently ranked 9th in the world in the men's decathlon and is 3rd all-time in Canada. He has 7 years of coaching experience
In 2010, Jamie made history by capturing the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India with an outstanding 8,070 points in the decathlon.
A past Olympic Shield recipient as the Windsor Lancers male athlete of the year, Jamie currently holds the Lancer record in the men's pentathlon with 4075 points.
