Strategic Priority Fund

Between 2010 and 2017, the Strategic Priority Fund (SPF) provided dedicated funding in support of the University’s Strategic Plan. In 2014, following the signing of the University’s first Strategic Mandate Agreement (SMA) with the Province of Ontario, the SPF evolved to encompass specific initiatives aligned with that document.

The SPF furthered the University of Windsor’s holistic project of improving curricula, enhancing student experience, promoting research, and underpinning future developments aiming to fulfil our academic mission. It also fostered vital community partnerships and international engagement, and contributed to the recruitment and retention of highly effective faculty and staff.

Between 2015 and 2018, the SPF was fully allocated to support Investing in Faculty, a major hiring initiative that created 50 new tenure-track Assistant Professor positions across a range of fields. Investing in Faculty was conceived to support a new generation of scholarly leadership across campus by strategically targeting areas of focus. The individual and collective efforts of these new faculty are already enhancing our goals in teaching, research, scholarship, creativity, and professional practice, and they position the University of Windsor to respond dynamically to the emerging challenges facing our students, our communities, and our world.

Beginning January 2018, the SPF will be known as the SMA Fund. Going forward, this new label will more accurately reflect the Fund’s essential alignment with the SMA, which represents a clear articulation of University and the Province’s shared goals.

The President has delegated the allocation of the SMA Fund, as he did for the SPF, to the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic.
