(Ruth) Jill Urbanic received her B. A. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Afterwards, she pursued opportunities to work in various advanced manufacturing environments in the automotive domain. She has been involved with design, implementation, and support for several types of manufacturing, material handling, testing, gauging and assembly equipment for a variety of engine components and vehicle styles.

Dr. Urbanic wished to enhance her practical background with more theoretical knowledge. She received her M. A. Sc. in Industrial Engineering and her Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Windsor. She is presently a Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Automotive, and Materials Engineering at the University of Windsor. Her research focuses on advanced process design and manufacturing technologies, with a focus in process planning for machine tool and robotic based additive manufacturing systems. She has over 130 refereed publications in these areas. She is an award-winning researcher - she has received the 2019 University of Windsor Researcher Award,  and is a recipient of an NSERC University Faculty Award.

Dr. Urbanic teaches courses related to design and technical communication, such as systems design, computer aided design and manufacturing, and senior design projects. In 2013 she won the Wighton Fellowship, granted by the Sandford Fleming Foundation and the National Council of Deans of Engineering and Applied Science, for her innovative & immersive hands on approach to teaching these design based courses.
