2017-2018 University of Windsor Humanities Fellows: 

Kyle Asquith & Heidi Jacobs

University of Windsor Communications professor, Dr. Kyle Asquith takes a unique look at the critical, cultural, and historical dimensions of advertising and consumer culture. Originally from Brampton, Asquith studied at York University, before going on to graduate studies at the University of Windsor, and later earned his PhD in Media Studies from the University of Western Ontario. In the department of Communication, Media & Film, he has earned a reputation among students for delivering engaging lectures in large foundational courses. He is the co-author of ‘Social Communication in Advertising’ as well as the editor of  ‘Advertising, Consumer Culture, and Canadian Society: A Reader.’ 


Dr. Heidi Jacobs serves as an Information Literacy Librarian and the Liaison for the English and History departments at the Leddy Library.  In her role as Co-Director of the Leddy Library’s Centre for Digital Scholarship, Jacobs is part of the team that developed the “Wilfred ‘Boomer’ Harding and the Chatham Coloured All-Stars (1932-1939) project.”  The project preserves and shares the rich historical information of the local baseball team and was funded by an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant.  Jacobs completes her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from the University of Alberta, a Master’s of Library and Information Science from Western University, and a PhD in English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Her research has been published in a number of books and journals.  Jacobs has served on the HRG’s Academic Advisory Board and continues her involvement with HRG as a Fellow and Martin Wesley Lecturer this season.
