Health & Dental

Health and dental benefits are provided through Green Shield. These benefits are 100% employer paid.

Review the Green Shield Benefit Booklet for your Employee Group

Go to the Green Shield Canada Plan Members web-site to find information about your benefit plan, claim forms, online services and more. You will be required to create an on-line registration.

Out of Province/Country Travel Coverage

Out of province/country hospital and medical services coverage is provided through Green Shield to employees who meet the Canadian residency requirements.

OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) Equivalent Coverage

OHIP equivalent coverage is provided to non-resident employees for a period of 3 months.

OHIP coverage normally becomes effective three months after the date you establish residency in Ontario.

Short & Long Term Disability Benefits

In the event that you are not able to work, the university provides a short term disability benefit as well as long-term disability benefit. Premiums are employer paid. Please contact the Benefits Administration staff at ext. 2090 for details.

Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)

The benefit program includes an employer paid life insurance and AD&D insurance. These insurances are provided through Sun Life of Canada.

Employees are entitled to purchase optional life insurance as well as optional accidental death and dismemberment insurance.

Beneficiary designation are an important component of your life and AD&D coverage and can often go out of date. Please ensure that we have the most up to date beneficiary information.

Tuition Remission

The University provides a generous tuition remission benefit that is highly valued by our employees.

Full-time administrative staff and, with the employee's written consent, their dependent(s) and spouse are eligible for free tuition for credit courses approved by the Senate of the University of Windsor, provided such course(s) are taken outside the employee's scheduled working hours. Dependents as defined by the Income Tax Act are children of the employee, not over the age of 26 to whom the employee provides regular financial support.

Employees receiving benefits under the Long Term Disability plan, their spouses and dependents, the spouses and dependents of employees who die in service, and employees who retire from the University of Windsor and their spouses and dependents shall also continue to enjoy the benefit of free tuition.

Please note that this benefit commences in the semester following completion of the employee's probation period.

Employee Assistance Program

The EAP service is offered by Shepell-fgi, a leading accredited Canadian EAP provider for over 20 years. Their counselling and information services are confidential and voluntary. The service is available to permanent staff and their immediate family, at no cost.

St. Denis Centre membership

To support the wellbeing and good health of our employees, the University provides cost free membership to the St. Denis Athletic Centre. The membership includes use of the pool and field house. It does not include access to the "Forge" Fitness Centre. If you wish to purchase a membership to the "Forge", please visit the St. Denis Centre web-site or call extension 2456.
