Benefits at a Glance

For new employees, benefits become effective the first of the month following the completion of the probationary period.

Health & Dental

Health and dental benefits are provided through Green Shield. These benefits are 100% employer paid.

Go to the Green Shield Canada Plan Members web-site to find information about your benefit plan, claim forms, online services and more. You will be required to create an on-line registration.

Out of Province / Country Travel Coverage

Out of province hospital and medical services coverage is provided through Green Shield to employees who meet the Canadian residency requirements.

Short & Long Term Disability Benefits

In the event that you are not able to work, the university provides a short term disability benefit as well as a long-term disability benefit, premiums for which are shared equally between the employee and the employer. The long term disability benefit is provided through Great West Life. Please refer to your Collective Agreement for details.

Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) 

The benefit program includes employer paid life insurance and AD&D insurance. Please refer to your Collective Agreement for details.

These insurances are provided through Sun Life of Canada.

Employees are entitled to purchase optional life insurance as well as optional AD&D insurance. Please contact the Benefits Administration staff at extension 2049 for details.

Beneficiary designation are an important component of your insurance and AD&D coverage and can often go out of date. Please make sure that we have the most up to date beneficiary information.

Tuition Remission Benefit

The University provides a generous tuition remission benefit that is highly valued by our employees.

For specific details regarding the Tuition Remission program, please refer to the appropriate article in your Collective Agreement.

Employee & Family Assistance Program

The EAP service is offered by Morneau Shepell, a leading accredited Canadian EAP provider for over 20 years. Their counselling and information services are confidential and voluntary. The service is available to permanent staff and their immediate family, at no cost.

St. Denis Centre membership

To support the wellbeing and good health of our employees, the University provides cost free membership to the St. Denis Athletic Centre. The membership includes use of the pool and field house. It does not include access to the "Forge" Fitness Centre. If you wish to purchase a membership to the "Forge", please visit the St. Denis Centre web-site or call extension 2456.
