GLIER research shows that connectivity with surface rivers explains life in the deep subsurface

GLIER researcher Dr. Scott Mundle, and his colleagues from around the world, have discovered organisms deep within the subsurface of the earth.  These organisms were previously thought to only exist at the surface of the earth.  They believe that seismic activity forced the organisms in the water into cracks, holes and fissures, where some survived and continue to reproduce and colonize areas previously thought to contain only primitive life forms such as bacteria, or no life at all.

It is speculated that Mars could potentially harbour life deep below it's surface, as it was once a warmer, wetter planet than it is today.  Seismic activity there could also have driven organisms deep below the surface, and future exploration could focus on the subsurface when looking for signs of past life on Mars.
