Modern Languages (German, Italian or Spanish)/Second Language with Certificate

  • Explores a new language, the process of language acquisition and the culture associated with it
  • Offers concentrations in German, Italian and Spanish. No prior knowledge of the language is required; those with prior knowledge will be placed appropriately with placement determined by a program counsellor
  • Core courses in later years include intermediate and advanced language training as well as a second language education theory course, methodology course and a practicum. Core courses in linguistics, literature and culture complement the language sequence
  • Both the BA degree and Second Language Education Certificate awarded upon graduation
  • Double major combinations include Modern Languages with English, French, Political Science, History, Music, Psychology and many other disciplines
  • Provides exchange opportunities in Germany, Italy, Mexico, Chile and Spain

Minimum Admissions Average: 
Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages (Honours Combined Program)
Mean Admissions Average: 
  • ENG4U required.
  • Majors in all other languages do not require prior high school language courses and will be assessed and placed appropriately upon program entrance.
  • Students may choose to double major in any BA Honours program.
