The Student Awards Outreach Coordinator (SAOC) plays a key role in the administration of the University’s Undergraduate Scholarship and Bursary Program. The SAOC supports the effective and efficient delivery of the University’s undergraduate scholarship and bursary programs, including associated policies, regulations, and procedures. This position supports departmental/institutional communication and outreach activities for prospective students.


1. Initiates and coordinates outreach activities with prospective and current students specific to financial aid opportunities available.

2. Meets/presents to students, parents, schools and community agencies and attends prospective student events.

3. Coordinates and facilitates on-line webinars for students.

4. Supports the early financial aid process through student engagement, promoting the on-line award application process, collaborating with departments on the assignment of departmental entrance scholarships, etc.

5. Provides administrative support (payment exception reports, enters award allocations, communications) for existing and ad-hoc student award and financial aid program.

6. Collects, organizes, and responds to documents submitted in support of student applications for various bursaries; supports the bursary adjudication process and assists with student awards for payment made to successful applicants.

7. Supports the early student athlete financial aid process by collaborating with administrators and coaches in the department of Athletics.

8. Represents Student Awards at information fairs and special events as well as prepares materials for display for the university open house and information fair events.

9. Develops, maintains, and updates student award specific communications and web site.

10. Other administrative duties as assigned.


• College diploma in a related field (office administration, business) or experience as it relates to the duties of the position.

• Knowledge of government and institutional student assistance programs.

• Excellent public relations and public speaking skills.

• Excellent organizational skills demonstrated attention to detail, the ability to meet strict deadlines and work effectively under the pressure of high volume and constantly changing priorities.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate government policies and procedures in a clear and concise manner.

• Proven ability to be empathetic and sensitive while exercising tact, discretion and sound judgement.

• The ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Ability to understand and interpret complex business rules and government regulations governing student financial assistance.

• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and a proven ability to deal effectively with a diverse student population.

• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

• Excellent computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and database management and the ability to work with multiple applications at any given time; Typing 40 NWPM

• Experience or familiarity with website maintenance (e.g. Drupal) and social media platforms (e.g. Twitter)


• Strong working knowledge of university systems.

• Knowledge of working with and running queries and reports.

• Understanding of the University’s administrative and tuition fee structure.
