Team Leader - Chemical Control Centre Classification "VII" in the Chemical Control Centre / Health & Safety Department

Team Leader, Chemical Control Centre (CCC) will coordinate the day to day activities of the CCC and perform the day to day duties of Biosafety, Laser Safety, Radiation Safety and X-Ray Safety Officer. The incumbent assists the Manager of Environmental Health & Safety in the implementation and maintenance of new initiatives within the department including the coordination of the financial aspects of the Centre.


The successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor of Science in a related field (Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or equivalent, as determined by the department

• Current experience overseeing a team and coordinating the work of others

• 3 years’ relevant and recent work experience in the utilization a variety of hazardous materials, including biohazards, x-ray sources & radioisotopes

• Experience and training in the current regulations and legislation related to the transportation, storage and disposal of hazardous materials, and related to radiation safety, biosafety, laser safety, and x-ray safety

• Willing and be able to obtain RSO, BSO, LSO, XSO certification in first year of obtaining position

• Demonstrated experience in the development of safety programs, manuals, procedures

• Experience working with budget preparation/maintenance, inventory systems and report writing

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

• Customer service experience

• Valid and acceptable police clearance


• Experience in a University environment

• RSO, BSO, LSO, XSO Certification

Rate of pay:
Classification "VII" per Schedule A of the Collective Agreement
