Under the authority of the department head, the Laboratory Coordinator has the overall responsibility to manage, maintain and ensure the smooth running of all laboratories used for teaching in the Department of Physics. The position centralizes the day-to-day administrative and technical laboratory activities under one person providing the Department Head uniform control over course/lab enrolment requirements. This includes providing services that support Graduate Assistants / Teaching Assistants (GAs/TAs), students and faculty during the labs, including training the GA/TA’s who deliver the labs to the students. Purchase, build, maintain, troubleshoot and repair computers and other technical / electric / electronic apparatus used by faculty and staff in their offices and research laboratories.


The successful candidate will have:

• 3 year Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology

• Few years’ experience in electronics field, depending on area of work

• Minimum basic education in introductory Physics, with ability to learn more advanced Physics as necessary

• Expert level computer hardware background with knowledge of operating systems, networking and moderate knowledge of scientific and other software

• Supervisory experience

• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize within tight deadlines

• Excellent written and oral communication are required in dealing with a broad range of diverse individuals including Students, Faculty, and Staff in a professional manner

Rate of pay:
Classification "VII" per Schedule A of the Collective Agreement
