Temporary Part Time Student Counselling Coordinator '6' in the Student Counselling Centre (until approximately May 31, 2019)

This position provides administrative support and serves as the first point of contact for students needing services from the Student Counselling Centre.


1. Receives and appropriately directs in–person, email and telephone inquiries related to Counselling Services.

2. Conducts brief preliminary risk assessment for students presenting in distress/imminent risk and determines the type of support or intervention required (e.g., counselling, physician, security, police, community psychiatry or mental health services).

3. Facilitates ongoing and timely access for non-urgent student to therapist counselling and books meeting times through Titanium.

4. Facilitates placement of information on data management system.

5. Provides information to students, consultation and advising to faculty, other college staff, school board personnel, community agencies, and others on Counselling services for students.

6. Monitors generic email account for counselling including providing referrals to university and community resources, answering service questions, and front line response to complaints and concerns.

7. Other duties as assigned.


Mondays 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Tuesday – Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

(Up to a maximum of 24 hrs per week – work schedule may vary)

• College Diploma/University degree in a related field and/or experience as it relates to the duties of the position

• Successful completion within the first three (3) months of a course/program in suicide risk assessment, crisis counselling, crisis intervention and/or Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention.

• Experience with current computer software (e.g., MS office) and data management systems, including generating reports, performing data queries, maintaining databases (e.g., spreadsheets), Typing 30 NWPM

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, integrity, discretion, and diplomacy

• Experience working calmly and effectively, maintaining a positive and professional attitude while working in stressful situations with a variety of individuals

• Ability to work independently as well as a team player

• Strong organizational skills, multitasking, problem solving, attention to detail and analytical skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with a diverse student, faculty and staff community

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

As per Schedule 'A' - UNIFOR 2458 Part Time Collective Agreement
