IT Support Technician Tentative Classification "IV" in the Faculty of Nursing

The Information Technology (IT) Support Technician will support the day-to-day operations of the technical/ audio/visual related equipment and computer software/hardware ensuring the smooth functioning of Faculty operations and activities in Nursing-owned classrooms, labs, and workstations.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or 3 year College Computer Systems diploma, or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the Faculty.

• Ability to function effectively in a decentralized, diverse working environment.

• 2 years’ experience in desktop / IT support:

     o Microsoft and Mac OSX operating system troubleshooting

     o Desktop security (e.g. virus/spyware removal) o Networking (computer to switch) and LANs (file and print sharing)

     o Supporting A/V equipment such as electronic whiteboards, video displays, projectors and other A/V hardware devices

     o Component level repair

• Proficiency using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Office 365, and other commonly used business applications

• Strong customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal skills

• Clear verbal and written communication skills, with ability to explain technical concept to users

• Excellent organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills, often in time sensitive situations

• Ability to work both with minimal supervision and as part of a team

• Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, tools and processes

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, analyse issues, and problem solve with respect to technology

• Working knowledge of Drupal or similar content management software

• Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, tact and diplomacy

• Ability to work a flexible schedule occasionally as required

• Attention to detail and accuracy with respect to work functions and communications

• Knowledge of current IT policies, processes, procedures, solutions, best practices and standards


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Additional certification/training in computer science, information technology or related fields

• Experience working in a post-secondary and/or healthcare environment

• Knowledge of the operating and maintenance practices and procedures for healthcare and simulation equipment (e.g. mannequins)


Rate of pay:
Tentative Classification “IV” per Schedule A of the collective agreement
