Since inception, Connecting Windsor-Essex and the Centre for Smart Community Innovation has had many successes, the first of which was the development of high speed data communications networks to link the region to the rest of the province and beyond. The Windsor & Essex County Intelligent Community then brought together the major public sector institutions in the region to create a regional Wide Area Network, enabling better communication and common infrastructure which set the stage for enhanced collaboration.

Building on the technology platform, the organization collaborated with the community to bring international recognition of the region as an Intelligent Community, garnering a “Smart 21” designation in 2010 and a “Top 7” designation in 2011. The successes to date have been nothing short of spectacular in a region known for fierce competition and individualism, encouraging the kind of collaboration among the partners necessary to support a fully functioning intelligent community.

To take our community to the next level, it will be necessary to once again inspire and implant a sense of regional collaboration. Regional partners, across both the public and privates sectors, must work together to improve lives, accelerating the pace of growth and change. Innovative and adaptive cooperation will be the underpinning of the conscious steps necessary to develop the economic foundation that will make our community healthy and vital.

We have the technology, the talent and the capacity to compete on the world stage. The power and the resources lie within us, we must seize upon them to chart our destiny in the ever-changing, ever-competitive global marketplace of today and tomorrow.
