Natural Language Processing and study of Automated Response Suggestion for Email

Computer Science Colloquium Series
Susha Suresh

Date:  Friday, February 16th, 2018
Time: 11:00 am
Location: Odette, 110

Natural Language Processing is an area of research and application that explores how computers can be used to understand and manipulate natural language text or speech to do useful things. NLP researchers aim to gather knowledge on how human beings understand and use language so that appropriate tools and techniques can be developed to make computer system to understand and manipulate natural language to perform desired task. In this talk, introduction to NLP techniques and a novel end-to-end machine learning approach for automatically generating email responses, called Smart Reply (by google in gmail inboxes) will be discussed.

Susha Suresh is currently doing second term of Master of Science in Computer Science from University of Windsor. She received her bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2013. She has been working as a Business Analyst for more than three years in big four finance auditing firm, Ernst and Young. Her research interests are in fields of applied Machine learning and Patter Recognition, Natural Language Processing and Big Data.
