Abstract:: Service-oriented architecture is essentially a collection of services. These services communicate with each other. With the popularity of SOA, there are more and more services available on the internet which have the same functionality but different QoS.  The service composition becomes a decision problem on which component services should be selected such that user’s end-to-end QoS requirements (e.g. availability, response time) and preferences (e.g. price) are satisfied. Therefore, many researchers are involved in the research that how to select the most suitable service among a large number of candidate services . This presentation will cover basic information on methods that have been proposed to select the best service from a great number of services, such as local optimization, global optimization, negotiation-based approaches, etc. and recent progress to how to model QoS.
