Design of Disaster-Resilient Data Center WDM Networks

Abstract: Survivability against disasters—both natural and deliberate attacks, and spanning large geographical areas—is becoming a major challenge in communication networks. Cloud services delivered by datacenter networks poses new opportunities to provide protection against disasters. In such networks, path protection involves a backup communication scheme to be used in the case of a disaster. We are proposing a heuristic approach. Our approach to this problem, 1) determines a replication strategy 2) partitions requests for communication based on files requests 3) carry out routing wavelength assignment for primary and backup communication 4) repeat this for all files. A communication request can be handled with primary and backup lightpath to avoid the disaster. We will check our results on different standard topologies like NFSNET and compare the results for different demand sets.
