PhD Admission Requirements

Due to changes in the online application system, applications will NOT be accepted from NOVEMBER 18th - NOVEMBER 26th.

Thank you for considering the University of Windsor for your Graduate Studies. 

We are currently accepting applications for the FALL 2019 term, that is a September start.

There are many factors taken into consideration during the application review process such as your overall standing in previous academic records, that is both undergraduate and graduate level programs, reference letters, research areas, supervisor and funding availability.

The minimum admission requirement for the PhD program are:

  • Confirmation of an undergraduate degree with an overall GPA of 70% or higher as well as an MSc degree in Computer Science with an overall GPA of 80% or higher (when converted to Ontario standards)
  • Demonstrated English Language Proficiency of 6.5 or better on the IELTS (Academic), no band score less than 6.5, or TOEFL-92, no band score less than 23.

*Applicants must meet the minimum requirements at the time of application.

In order for an application package to be considered complete, the following documentation must be received by the application deadline:

  • Completed on-line application form
  • 3 Confidential reports (Reference letters)
  • CV
  • Statement of Purpose (Research Statement Form)
  • PhD: Title and abstract of your Computer Science Master’s Research Thesis
  • English Proficiency results
  • Copies of Publications (if applicable)

*Please note, it is highly recommended that applicants indicate a potential supervisor, along with the intended area of interest in the Research Statement Form
