Become a Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistants are very important to Communication Studies. TAs are paid assistants to professors and have responsibilities ranging from monitoring/instructing in labs to marking assignments and tests. Serving as a TA provides students with the opportunity to gain experience in teaching and class management. TAs are needed in many courses, especially production and methods courses with scheduled labs.

To become a TA, qualifications are on the official attached posting. Some general preferences would be: 

  • Completion of 2 or 3 years of undergraduate study in Communication, Media & Film

  • Demonstration of the potential for leadership of fellow students

NOTICE RE: TEACHING ASSISTANT (TA) POSITIONS W18 TBA

In accordance with Article 12:01 of the CUPE 4580 Collective Agreement the Department of Communication, Media & Film invites applications for TA positions for the Winter 2018 term. The total funds for Teaching Assistantships allocated to the Department of Communication, Media & Film for Winter 2018 is approx.  14000.00 Additional information for the course including labs and final exam at www.uwindsor.ca/timetables

Eligibility requirements: The following are specific criteria required for the appointments above:  Required essential qualifications:

All positions: must have taken the course with a minimum of 73%; must have a Major GPA of at least 70% with good communication skills; must be available to attend courses/labs/exams (mid-term and final exams) at the specified times.

Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who have background and experience the area of the course for which they are applying.

Teaching Assistant appointments shall be offered to qualified applicants in accordance with the criteria specified in Article 12:04 of the Collective Agreement. Teaching Assistant appointments shall be offered to qualified applicants in accordance with the criteria specified in Article 12:04 of the Collective Agreement.  

Note that Teaching Assistants cannot be employed for more than 100 hours per semester total. If you already hold or have applied for another TA position (in this or another department) note that the total combined hours for all TA appointments held in all departments cannot exceed 100 hours.
