Definition of First Year

Tuition fees will be related to your specific program and your year of study within that program. For purposes of published fee schedules, the following guidelines apply:

Undergraduates
  • First year – students who are completing the equivalent of a full-time first year of study in their program.
  • Second year – students who have successfully completed the equivalent of the first year of study in a particular program.
  • Third year – students who have successfully completed the equivalent of the second year of study in a particular program.
  • Fourth year or higher – students who have successfully completed the equivalent of the third year of study in a particular program.

Graduates

  • First year – students who are in the first, second or third semester (excluding coop terms, and terms on leave of absence) in the same program, at the same level. (ie. M1, C1, D1, D2)
  • Second year – students who are have successfully completed four to six semesters of study in the same program at the same level.
  • Third year – students who have successfully completed seven to nine semesters of study in the same program at the same level.
  • Fourth year – students who have successfully completed nine semesters of study in the same program at the same level.

Note: Students who change from one program to another program, or one level to another level, will be considered to be first year again from a fees perspective. (excluding psychology)
