Dance Fusion

Class description:

Dance fusion is a dance-based workout class suited for individuals of all dance backgrounds and experience levels. The class focuses on jazz, ballet, and hiphop fundamentals, mixing in components of stretch and strengthening exercises for a full body workout, all with the main goal of having fun! There will also be opportunities for exposure to up and coming dance styles of your choice! Come out and enjoy a great workout and improve existing or learn new dance technique.

Bio:

Hey everyone! I'm Liz and I will be instructing the dance fusion class. I have been dancing since I was 8 years old and have loved every part of my dance experience. I was a member of Dancetastic Studio's competitive dance team for ten years back in my hometown of Richmond Hill, Ontario. When I started university, I trained with UWO Dance Force at Western University where we performed to raise money for charities such as Special Olympics London and The Canadian Mental Health Association. Dance has taught me so much about myself and about giving back to the community. It is also the perfect workout, stress-reliever, and a great way to have fun and make friends. I am currently in my first year at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and while I don't plan on dancing as my full time career I plan to keep my passion for dancing alive as it does hold a big importance in my life. I am so excited to be back dancing and to be a part of the Lancer Recreation team and I can't wait to share my knowledge and love for dance with everyone I teach!

MIDDLE EASTERN BELLY DANCE

Professional dancer Barb Sharp will provide instruction on technique, culture, and music of Middle Eastern dance. The moves are gentle on the body, yet provide a low-impact workout and lots of fun with fellow dancers! Participants can wear workout-type gear, can dance barefoot or in gymnastic-type slippers or socks, and hip scarves are provided to use during class time if you don’t have your own (no coins, please). Performance is not required, and the emphasis will be on building a movement vocabulary for improvisation. All ladies welcome! Come for the fitness, come for the fun!

Beginner level is an introduction to the dance form, and aimed at newcomers to the dance or for those who have taken less than a year of dance instruction. Proper posture, discovering and becoming acquainted with our muscles, and developing a movement bank with body memory will be emphasized. Relaxed atmosphere and camaraderie are encouraged!

Intermediate level builds on the basics, expanding on previous movements and refining technique. Emphasis continues on posture, expanding movement vocabulary and subtlety, developing personal style and expression, matching movement to music, and having a fun evening with the girls!
